Alfred L. Appelle III

Alfred L. Appelle III, 57, passed away unexpectedly at home in Rocky Hill on Sunday, May 19, 2024.  Al was born on April 1, 1967, to Margaret (Kleszcz) and Alfred L. Appelle Jr. He grew up in Southington where he developed a passion for motorcycles and music at a young age.

For anybody who met Al, you could quickly learn that beyond the crazy, tough, grizzly bear, long haired exterior, he was the most kind, loving, caring and compassionate man.  Al loved with all his heart, including his everlasting love for his late wife Janice (McCloud, Malone) who predeceased him in 2022. Together, they enjoyed life to the fullest and held tight the values of friendship and family.  In their early years, they spent their free time on his motorcycle with their friends until Al became a long-distance truck driver. After many years on the road, he returned home where he cared for Jan.  After Jan’s passing, Al spent his time fixing motorcycles and supporting his favorite band and family Physical Graffiti that included their dear, friend Matt Herthernan. 

In addition to his mother Peggy and stepfather Michael Esposito of Plantsville/Naples, FL, he is survived by his brother, Paul J. Appelle and wife Tania Archambault of Safety Harbor, FL, his sister, Deborah V. Carpenter and husband Serge of Middletown and his two nieces, Samantha Appelle and Megan Whalen as well as his stepchildren Brad and Trish Malone. 

Al would often joke with his family that he was given the best hair of the siblings, and he was right. Al would grow his hair long and then cut and donate it to Locks of Love for kids that provides hair prosthetics to children with cancer. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Locks of Love (Financial Donation - Locks of Love)

Calling hours will be held from 4 – 6:30 p.m. with a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville.
