Andrew B. Hodges

Andrew B. Hodges, 62, of the Plantsville section of Southington, passed away at home on September 19, 2025.

Andy was born on December 3, 1962 in Mount Holly, New Jersey to the late Benjamin F.Hodges Jr. and Elizabeth (White) Hodges and grew up in Reading, Massachusetts with his three siblings.

He was the beloved husband of Suzanne, with whom he recently celebrated forty years of marriage. Andy was the loving father to his children Daniel Hodges and his wife Rachel Glasser, Kendall Hodges and her husband Jim Hammond, and Abigail Hodges. He was the adoring grandpa to his four grandchildren Quinn, Rory, Benjamin and Greer, with another grandson arriving in January.

In addition to his wife and children, Andy is survived by his siblings, including Janet and Peter (Sherry) of Ocala, FL. Andy was also a beloved brother-in-law, uncle and friend.

Andy graduated from Reading Memorial High School, Class of 1980 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in mathematics and economics from Wesleyan University, Class of 1984, where he played baseball and met Suzanne. He had a great brain for numbers and had a long, rewarding career as an actuary, most notably at CIGNA and Mass Mutual. He took a three-year hiatus from number crunching to teach mathematics at Southington High School. After he returned to the actuarial business world, he would tutor students in math and SAT prep.

Not only did Andy have a gift for math, but he had the gift of gab. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and within a few minutes, find someone they knew in common or a sports team they could bond over. 

Andy had a lifelong passion for sports, especially baseball, which he loved sharing with his son and close friends. His ability to recall any baseball statistic, as well as individual plays was incredible. Among his greatest joys was coaching Little League and Babe Ruth baseball at Western Baseball in Southington. But mostly, Andy will be remembered for his quick wit, knack for assigning nicknames, sense of humor, laughter, love of family and friends, fondness of a good fest, and his kindness. He never forgot to say thank you or give a “friendly wave and you’re on your way.”
