Anthony J. Stankewicz, DDS, MSD

Anthony John Stankewicz, DDS, MSD, aged 88, of Southington, CT passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 22, 2025. He was the loving husband of Kathleen (Kerr) Stankewicz for 55 years.

Anthony was born October 17, 1936 in New Britain, CT to the late Anthony and Frances (Gladke) Stankewicz.

Dr. Stankewicz was a 1954 graduate of Cheshire Academy and went on to earn his BS from the University of Connecticut in 1958. He graduated from Georgetown Dental School in 1962 and completed his residency in Oral Surgery at Fordham University. Anthony enlisted in the United States Air Force as a Captain and proudly served his country as a dentist, stationed in Northern Maine at the Loring Air Force Base. Upon his return home, Tony worked as an oral surgeon and general dentist before enrolling at Fairleigh Dickinson University where he received his Master’s Degree in Orthodontics (MSD) in 1970.

Anthony established his own orthodontic practice and married his wife Kathleen in 1970. Together, they settled in Southington where they would raise their family of two sons, Mark and James, and one daughter, Ann, in the family home that they proudly designed and built.

Tony was a founding parishioner of Saint Dominic Church and was deeply spiritual. He was active in the parish, serving as head lector and a religious education instructor for many years. He will be remembered as a devoted father who was thoughtful, charitable to many organizations and generous with his time, including giving blood as often as he was eligible. After retirement, Tony was active in the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in Southington. He was also very inventive, always thinking outside the box. For example, he developed the idea of making braces invisible by putting them on the inside of people’s teeth.

Tony is survived by his wife, Kathleen and their three children, Mark Stankewicz (Laura) of Nashville, Tennessee, Ann Goulet of Southington, Connecticut and James Stankewicz (Katharine) of Bethesda, Maryland and three granddaughters, Katherine Frances and Elizabeth Ann, both of Nashville, TN and Anne of Bethesda, MD.  He is also survived by his brother, Paul Stankewicz of Southington and his sister-in-law, Joan Stankewicz of Harwinton. In addition to his parents, Anthony was predeceased by his brother, Walter Stankewicz.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Luke Catholic Parish (https://www.stlukect.org/give).
