Betty Y. Libby

On Tuesday, January 13, 2026, Betty Yvonne (Otwell) Libby, 88, of Southington, joined her lifelong love and late husband, Leroy Lane Libby III, at their campground in the sky. They had been married for nearly 62 blessed years before his passing in 2016.

Betty was born on July 24, 1937, in Monroe, Louisiana to the late Alvy and Pauline Otwell. She worked as a dedicated nurse in Waterbury for many years and was a longtime member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Southington. Betty enjoyed painting, camping and especially staying connected to her family using her tablet. She was happiest spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and cherished great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love will live on in their hearts forever.

Betty is survived by her sons, Jonathan Libby and his wife, Arline, of New York, and Timothy Libby of Berlin; her daughter, Kathy Biela and her husband, Robert, of Southington; four grandchildren, Amy Bower and her husband, Jeremy, Jill Libby and her husband, Ari Check, Garrett Biela, and Kimberly Biela and her husband, Zachary Spencer; four great-grandchildren, Callen, Gwen, Asher, and Ava; her brother, Jerry Otwell of Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and her aunt, Virginia Castleton Widenmyer of Florida. In addition to her husband, Leroy, she was predeceased by her sister, Peggy.
