Chadwick A. McKney, Sr.

Chadwick A. McKney Sr., 80, surrounded by the love of his family and embraced by angels on January 24, 2024, in Meriden, CT, peacefully joined his beloved wife Julia, who predeceased him in 2017 after 28 years of marriage.

Born on May 23, 1943, in Meriden, CT, Chad was the son of the late Daniel McKney formerly of Orlando, FL and the late Catherine (Wellman) Broad formerly of Meriden, CT.

Chad is survived by his three sons: Chad McKney, Jr. and his wife Loida of Tucson, AZ; Jerry McKney and his wife Cathy of Delray Beach, FL and Michael McKney and his wife Heather of Meriden, CT. He is also remembered by his grandchildren; Emily, Matthew and Levi McKney and Justin and Kayla Brangiero. Also special to Chad was his caregiver, Tammy Egidi, as well as extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Ross and Ronald Broad.

Growing up in Meriden, Chad attended Meriden public schools and overcame the challenges of Polio. During his teen years and early twenties, he was part of a tap dance group and discovered his passion for Judo at the age of 17. Chad went on to achieve a 7th-degree black belt in Judo, professor level, and a second-degree black belt in Aikido. His dedication to martial arts extended to teaching in Meriden and the central Connecticut area for decades. Chad served as a referee at Connecticut Judo competitions and was honored with the Key of Meriden, CT, for his service to the city. Chad's professional journey led him to work with troubled youth for the State of Connecticut. Upon early retirement, he and Julia enjoyed travels to Cape Cod and Florida, relishing dining experiences and precious moments with family and friends. An enthusiast of Western movies, a skilled impressionist, and a soul with a wonderful sense of humor, Chad McKney will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
