It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Devin Leary, 58, of Newington, Connecticut, who left us far too soon on Monday, July 28, 2025, as the result of a motor vehicle accident.
Beloved Father, Husband, Son, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather and Friend.
Devin was a man who lived life wide open—always up for an adventure, quick with a laugh, and never far from a project that required a hammer, an engine, or a little elbow grease. An exceptional carpenter, Devin poured his skill, creativity, and dedication into everything he built, often leaving more than just structures—he left behind stories, memories, and moments that will last a lifetime.
He was passionate about anything with a motor, and even more passionate about the people he loved. Whether he was sharing a laugh with friends, offering a helping hand, or simply telling one of his legendary stories, Devin had a way of making everyone feel like family. His zest for life and generous spirit touched all who knew him.
Devin was a graduate of H.C. Wilcox Technical High School and a former longtime resident of Southington, CT, where he built a life full of connection, community, and craftsmanship.
He was predeceased by his brother, Doug, and now joins him in eternal peace.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Robin, and his beloved son, Cameron (Kelly) Leary, of whom he was immensely proud. He also leaves behind his loving parents, Frances and Francis (Bates) Leary, his devoted sisters, Debra (Stephen) Brown and Darcie (Michael) Shewokis, and his cherished nieces and nephews: Michael, Hayley, Hayden, and Hillary. Devin also leaves behind his step-children: Jeffrey, Ryan, Jared, and Ryley Haddock and his special granddaughter, Laylah Haddock, who brought him endless joy. Devin was a true friend to many, and his absence will be felt profoundly.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 South Main Street, Plantsville, CT 06479.
A Celebration of Life to honor Devin will be held at a later date. In the meantime, his family encourages those who knew him to remember the laughter, the stories, and the countless ways he made life richer for those around him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take a moment to go for a ride, build something with your hands, or tell a great story in his memory—just as Devin would have wanted.
Life’s not about the destination—it’s about the ride. And what a ride Devin gave us all.
