Doris C. Cyr

Doris C. (Carignan) Cyr, 88, of the Plantsville section of Southington, passed away peacefully at her home, with her two daughters by her side, on Monday, February 6, 2023.

Doris was born on May 14, 1934 in Portland, ME to the late Lucien and Antoinette (LeRiche) Carignan. After graduating from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1955, she moved to Connecticut, where she made lifelong friends. She worked as a Registered Nurse at a number of local hospitals, but Bradley Memorial Hospital in Southington was her favorite, where she always treated her patients with compassion, dignity and respect.

After her retirement, Doris embraced her passions. She was an avid gardener, always working in her own gardens or Stephanie’s Florida garden during winter months. She was an accomplished hiker, hiking the Grand Canyon, Mount Washington and sections of the Appalachian Trail, in addition to numerous other trails. Doris also loved to travel, whether it be across the country or throughout Europe.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Joanne Cyr of Searsport, ME and Stephanie Cyr of Niceville, FL; her grandchildren; Todd Freimuth (Michelle), Brad Freimuth (Rachel), Victoria Cyr, Richard Cyr and Nicole Cyr (Corey) and her great-grandchildren; Michael and Austin Freimuth, Scarlett Laufer and Ally, Brandon and Xavier Cyr. Vivacious and caring, Doris leaves behind many nieces, nephews and close friends, who will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her three sisters; Rita, Irene and Priscilla, her son, Mark Cyr and grandson, Derek Cyr.

Funeral services will held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 10, 2023, from the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., with a 12:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St., Plantsville. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.  Calling hours will be held from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at the Plantsville Funeral Home.
