Doris (Mitchell) Melnysyn, 86, of Southington, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, January 16, 2017.  She was the wife of the late John Melnysyn, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage.

 

Doris was born in Manchester, CT on October 7, 1930, daughter of the late, Ralph and Dorothy Mitchell.  She was a resident of Bristol and attended Bristol Schools, and has been a resident of Southington since 1958.    Doris was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, a member of the Calendar House, and the YMCA, and was an avid bowler at the Apple Valley Bowling Center for many years.  She enjoyed playing golf in her younger years, and was also a volunteer for the Red Cross for five years.    

 

She is survived by her three children; Gary and his partner Deb of North Granby, CT, Lori Crispino and her husband Chip of Cheshire, and Kathleen Fitzgerald and her husband Fred from Bristol; seven grandchildren whom she absolutely adored; Kylee, David, Shana, Emily, Daniel, Marc and Taylor and three great grandchildren; Quinn, Faye, and Harper.  She also leaves one sister, Gertrude and five brothers; Donald, Ralph, Raymond, Albert and Thomas and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her brother Edwin.

 

In lieu of flowers, Doris may be remembered with contributions to the Southington YMCA, 29 High St, Southington, CT 06489.

 

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. from Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St, Plantsville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 130 Summer St, Southington.  Committal services will follow at South End Cemetery.  Family and friends may gather on Thursday evening, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
