Dorothy A. (Dlugos) Babon, 97, of Southington, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late John Babon who predeceased her in 2001.
Dorothy was born on January 4, 1928 in Southington to the late Joseph and Anna (Gura) Dlugos. She was a lifelong Southington resident and a longtime parishioner at St. Thomas Church.
Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to taking care of her own eight children and then her cherished grandchildren. She was an excellent baker and “Grandma’s Cookie Jar” was always full. She enjoyed doing puzzles and crossword puzzles, ironing everything and watching a good soap opera.
Dorothy is survived by her children: John Babon (Brenda) of Montana, Michael Babon (Cindy) of Southington, Sharon Verner of Southington, Nancy Babon of Newington, Gary Babon (Alice) of Southington, Lawrence Babon (Lori) of Wolcott, Cindy Babon of Southington and Christopher Babon (Teresa) of Southington; 23 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Rita Bassett, one brother, Robert Dlugos and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband John, Dorothy was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Cindy Babon, two brothers, William and Jerry Dlugos and two sisters, Ann Chalmers and Ruth Tortora.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2025 at St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St., Plantsville. Please meet directly at church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours will be held from 2 – 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville.
