Edward S. Pocock, Jr., 84, of Southington, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of love for family and dedicated service to his beloved community.

Frederick Pocock, a blacksmith, settled the Pocock Family in Southington, CT in 1895, and had one son named Edward Pocock, who went on to marry Helen Yorski, having two sons, Ed Pocock Jr. and William Pocock. Ed Jr. worked the family dairy farm on East Street for his entire childhood, eventually moving on to work for Agway. Around this time, he discovered police work and fell in love with his work, first as an Auxiliary State Trooper, then as a full time Southington Police Officer in January 1969. There, he excelled in the field, performing specialized duties and rising through the ranks, eventually retiring in July 2003 as a Lieutenant. Ed was beloved by the men and women who worked with him at the Department and he loved them back.

Before and after retirement, Ed was active in volunteer elected positions. First serving on the elected Library Board, then moving on to the Town Council, and finally serving on the Finance Board until his death. The friendships he developed on the Finance Board easily made that his favorite post and he openly enjoyed working to find solutions. His commitment to the Town of Southington was unwavering and extended to his membership in Friendship Lodge #33 and the Elks.

Ed is survived by his wife, Rita (Sobieraj) Pocock, two sons, Edward S. Pocock III and his wife Jacy and Kenny V. Pocock and his wife Paula; granddaughters, Erika L. Pocock, Karissa (Pocock) Miller (Daniel), Korinne F. (Pocock) Hesselschwardt (Gil) and Shannon Kaszuba and three cherished great-grandchildren, Franklin Edward, Grace and Robert. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Jeffrey Pocock (Sara Suranna), Heather Pocock (William Gibbons) and Craig Pocock (Stephanie).

He was predeceased by his parents, Edward S. Pocock Sr. and Helen (Yorski) Pocock, his brother, William Pocock and his wife Loretta (DePoalo) Pocock.

Ed’s family would especially like to extend their thanks and deep appreciation to the Southington Police Department, the Southington Fire Department, AMR, the medical staff that oversaw their Dad’s care and final days, his close friends, John Moise, Jim Morelli and Chief Daly, and the countless other people who called to offer help and assistance.
