Ellen Louise Gulick Schwarz, 88, of Plantsville, CT, passed away peacefully at home, after a 16 year struggle with dementia, on January 8, 2021.
Ellen was born on September 10, 1932 in Orange, New Jersey to the late Kenneth Farnum and Lena Louise Crane.
She lived in Orange, New Jersey for her childhood years, moving to Bridgewater, NJ where she was a stay at home mom raising her three children. As an excellent baker, there was never a day without a dessert after school or dinner for her family. At age 50 she received her nursing license and worked as an LPN until her retirement, taking care of the elderly. She loved all people and was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. An open door policy was how she lived her life, all were welcome at any time. She was always there for everyone and was giving all the time.
In 2005 she moved to Connecticut to be closer to family as she struggled with the dementia. She loved music and you could hear her singing her favorite songs daily, and making those around her laugh and smile right to the end.
To Mulberry Gardens, Live Well Center caregivers and all the private care givers over the years, thank you for making Ellen’s life more enjoyable, comfortable, peaceful and memorable. We love you MOM, Grandma and great-grandma. You will be in our hearts forever.
Ellen is survived by three children: son, Glenn Gulick and wife Amy of Southbury and two daughters, Gail Perrella of Southington and Nancy Gulick of Bridgewater, NJ; and son-in-law, Dennis Perrella of Southington, eight grandchildren: Brian Perrella and his wife Susan of Southington, Krista Antigiovanni and her husband Brian of Southington, Alyssa Wypychoski of NYC, Ashley Gulick, Gregory Gulick and Grant Gulick, all of Southbury, Dana Gulick Bowman and Mark Gulick Bowman, both of Bridgewater, NJ and five great-grandchildren, Logan, Gavin and Camden Perrella and Brady and Lena Antigiovanni.
She is also survived by her former husband, Rodwin Gulick of Oxford, nephew Ken Higgins of Punta Gorda, FL and many other nieces and nephews. Ellen was predeceased by two sisters, Jane Martel and Alma Day.
In lieu of flowers, in Ellen’s memory, her family requests that you pay it forward by offering a helping hand to a senior as Ellen would have done.
Plantsville Funeral Home has been entrusted with handling the arrangements. Due to Covid concerns, a memorial/celebration of life gathering will be held on September 10, 2021 at a place and time TBD. For online condolences, please visit www.plantsvillefuneralhome.com.
