Elvetta (Graeff) Wilson, 102, of Oakville, CT, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at the Pines of Bristol. She was the beloved wife of the late Ronald L. Wilson, Sr.
Elvetta was born on June 27, 1922 in Clifton Springs, NY, to the late John and Serena (Webster) Graeff.
A mother of three sons, she was a homemaker for most of her life. An excellent cook and baker, she made everything homemade. She would make four loaves of bread each week using an old hand mixer, which her son is still using today.
Elvetta loved to knit and sew and made her three boys their sweaters, mittens, hats and scarves. She was a very good seamstress and her sewing machine was constantly humming. Elvetta’s husband Ron was the love of her life. They traveled together and played golf on many of their vacations. Their favorite golf trip was to St. Andrews in Scotland. She was an excellent golfer and many of her golf buddies found her unbeatable, saying she had a perfect swing. In her youth, Elvetta was an avid tennis player. She was very competitive and shared how she would beat her male classmates in high school. She also loved to read daily and would share a good book. Elvetta shared many stories with her family about her youth from living through the depression during World War II to when she lived in Portland, ME. She would go down to Back Bay and watch the burning ships at sea that were torpedoed by German submarines. There were so many interesting stories.
Her family feels fortunate to have had her until age 102. We would like to thank the nurses and aides at the The Pines of Bristol for the care they gave to Mom over the years and for making her comfortable in her last days.
Elvetta is survived by her two sons, Richard W. Hanson and his wife Kathleen and Ronald L. Wilson, Jr. and her daughter-in-law, Evonne Hanson, her grandchildren, Christine Jameson (William), Stacey D’Anthony (Marc), Sherida Hahn (Michael), John Hanson (SaraBeth), Ronald Wilson III (Jessica), Andrew Wilson, Gerald Hanson (Tammy), 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marge Rinkavage and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, John R. Hanson and sister, Joan Snell (Robert).
In lieu of flowers, donations in Elvetta’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675, (www.woundedwarriorproject.org/).
