Erik R. Kastner

July 20, 1979 — April 18, 2024

Southington, CT

Erik Raymond Kastner, 44, of Southington, passed away unexpectedly on April 18, 2024. Erik was the loving father of Sophie and Chase and the beloved son of Ray and Sandi Kastner. Erik left a large and loving family including sisters, Jody DiGioia and husband Joe; Katie Spalter and husband Mike; and Megan Eruzione and husband Mike. Erik was also known as the fun-loving “Uncle E” to Josie, Mikey, Matt, Brandon, Trey, Rayley, and Jax.

Aside from his dedication to his children and family, Erik’s life was committed to demonstrating the joy found in physical health. After graduating Central Connecticut State University with a degree in physical education, Erik enjoyed years of working as a school physical education teacher before obtaining a degree in nursing and working as a registered nurse at the Hospital of Central Connecticut. A life-long runner, weightlifter, and national Spartan race competitor, Erik’s personal life largely reflected his passion for improving the well-being of others. Erik was affectionately known for rarely sitting still, often being spotted jogging long distances around town, working out with laser focus at the gym, or mowing a family member’s lawn.

After running his personal record of 2 hours, 54 minutes, and 47 seconds in the 2023 Boston Marathon, Erik was ready for the next challenge as usual, just recently signing up for the DEKA fit circuit to compete against elite athletes from all over the United States. Erik was always grateful for each physical achievement earned, but nothing was more valuable to him than seeing his family always cheering proudly from sidelines. Erik will be missed by his uncles Harry and David, and by aunts: Sharon, Nancy, June, Jean, Pam, Roseanne and Ruthie.  He was predeceased by his uncles:  Jack and Billy Kastner, and Rick Abecunas and aunt Laurie Lepore; grandparents: Joan Carlson and Vic Abecunas; Harry and Josephine Kastner.  Erik’s former wife, Lucy Sullivan, remained his true best friend and a close confidante.  His many cousins held him in great esteem and shared many wonderful childhood memories.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Erik may be made to the Dream Center (https://www.dreamcenter.org/)  or to Turning Point  (https://www.turningpointchristiancenter.com/).
