Francisco Tavares Martins

Francisco T. Martins, 86, of New Britain and formerly of Scituate, MA, passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 19, 2014.

Born on February 5, 1928 in Cape Verde to the late Philip and Libania (R'Docanto) Martins, he had been a longtime New Britain resident.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Francisco is survived by his five children: Patricia Melfort of New Britain; Maria Vaccaro of Southington; Linda Giordano of Newington; Odette Martins and Frank Martins, both of New Britain; one granddaughter, Francesca Carlton of New Britain and one great-granddaughter Theresa.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Francisco's memory may be made to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd, Newington, CT 06111.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday August 22, 2014 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Calling hours will be held from 1 - 3 p.m. before the service.
