Inez L. O'Neil

Inez L. (Berglund) O’Neil, 101, died Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Southington Care Center after a brief illness. She was the widow of Augustine T. O’Neil. 

Inez was born March 23, 1925 in Watertown, CT, daughter of the late Reuben and Lydia (Magnuson) Berglund. She was a 1942 graduate of Watertown High School. 

Inez was a Cheshire resident for 75 years and was employed as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1993. She was an accomplished cook, always had beautiful gardens and was a lifelong reader. She remained connected to her heritage and enjoyed Swedish traditions, especially at Christmastime. 

She is survived by her son, Stephen O’Neil of Middletown, two daughters, Nancy Travis (Bill) of Pittsfield, MA and Karen Engratt of Waterbury, grandchildren, Matthew Travis of New Jersey, Peter Travis (KJ) of Texas and Meredith Engratt of Waterbury and two great-grandchildren, Maya and Theo Travis of Texas.In lieu of flowers, donations in Inez’s memory may be made to a food pantry of the donor’s choice.

A memorial service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at the First Congregational Church of Cheshire, 11 Church Dr. Cheshire, CT. Burial will follow in Wonx Spring Cemetery, Plantsville. Plantsville Funeral Home has been entrusted with handling the arrangements.
