James E. DeBisschop, 84, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Bel-Air Manor in Newington. He was the loving husband of Theresa (Piccoli) DeBisschop for 62 years.
Jim was born on May 8, 1941 in Bristol to the late Maurice and Helen (Westfort) DeBisschop. He worked as a carpenter for Griffin Construction for 32 years and later as Maintenance Foreman for the Southington Board of Education. Jim was a dedicated firefighter for 32 years at Southington’s Company 3, where he served as a Captain for two years. He enjoyed farming and spent weekends working on the land at his cousin’s farm in Cheshire for over 30 years.
In addition to his wife Terry, Jim is survived by three sons, James DeBisschop and his wife PJ of Southington, Douglas DeBisschop of Meriden and Kevin DeBisschop and his wife Cindy of Farmington and five grandchildren, Tim, Chelsea, Sydney, Lauryn and Jacob. He is also survived by his brother, Alan DeBisschop of Plantsville, sister, Gail Shaw and her husband William of Southington and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 from 9 – 11 a.m. with Words of Remembrance at 11:00 a.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St. Plantsville.
