James W. Seaman

James W. Seaman, 72, of Palm Bay, FL and formerly of Southington, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at UConn Health Care in Farmington, after a long-term illness. He had been the loving husband and soulmate of Carol B. (Niedzwiecki) Seaman for 47 years.

Born Jan. 3, 1943 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Valentine and Thelma (Yantz) Seaman, he was a resident of New Britain and Southington before retiring to Palm Bay, FL.

Mr. Seaman was a dedicated father and loving husband who enjoyed spending time with his family and his dogs, Basia and Prince.

In addition to his wife Carol, he is survived by his daughter Laura Bryant and her husband Michael of Plantsville and his daughter Karen DeGumbia and her husband Allen of Southington; one grandchild, Morgan and four step-grandchildren: Brook, Austin, Hunter and Gannon. He was predeceased by his loving sister, Phyllis Lynne (Seaman) Murdoch.

Mr. Seaman proudly served his country as a corporal in the U.S. Army. He spent most of his tour in West Germany but also served in Vietnam and was airborne certified. In his early career, he was employed at the CT Student Loan Foundation and later worked for the CT Department of Revenue Services where he retired with his wife in 2003.

Mr. Seaman was an active member of the American Legion Post 394 in Palm Bay, FL and held several positions at the post. He was also very involved in his homeowner's association in Palm Bay. Mr. Seaman had a love for fast cars, motorcycles, fishing and golfing. He spent lots of time riding and reeling in his retirement years.

Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday March 21, 2015 from the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville with a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St., Plantsville. Burial with full military honors will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington.
