Jean A. Samojedny

Jean A. (Uryga) Samojedny, 93, of Southington, passed away on October 1, 2023 at HOCC in New Britain. She was the loving wife of the late John F. Samojedny for 57 years.  Jean was born on April 10, 1930 in New Britain, CT, one of four children, to the late Peter and Anelia (Zabrensky) Uryga.

She worked in the cafeteria at Thalberg Elementary School and was affectionately known as the “Ice Cream Lady” by numerous students over the years.  She was a faithful parishioner at St. Dominic’s Church and enjoyed playing setback and dancing to polka music. Jean was an animal lover and had a soft spot for cats, welcoming many strays into her home. She also loved cooking and baking for her family and many of her recipes will be passed down for generations to come. Jean devoted her life to family and cherished the years she spent babysitting her grandchildren alongside her late husband John. Jean will be remembered with love as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and she will be deeply missed.

Jean is survived by two sons and one daughter, Thomas Samojedny of Southington, Robert Samojedny and wife Sandra of Watertown and Nancy Cannatelli of Southington, two grandchildren, Annie and AJ Cannatelli and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband John, Jean was predeceased by 3 siblings, Mary, Veronica and Frank.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023 at St. Dominic's Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington.  Please meet directly at church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Southington.
