John "Jack" R. Lacourciere

John "Jack" R. Lacourciere, 84, of Milldale, passed away on April 28, 2015 at Cheshire Regional Rehab. He was the son of the late Royal and Louise (Scholefield) Lacourciere.

In 1950 at the age of 20, Jack suffered a severe stroke while attending UConn, which left him completely paralyzed on one side. Unable to walk or talk and see out of just one eye, he worked tirelessly for years to bring himself back. Practicing every day to walk and working with a recorder for many hours to relearn how to talk. He never complained or gave up. Jack was able to get his driver's license and drive himself to work in Waterbury. In addition, he sold Amway products, had a magazine subscription business, and sold wedding rings and wedding invitations for many years while living in Milldale. Jack's mother was his caregiver for over 34 years and after her death in 1984, he was able to get an apartment and lived on his own in Waterbury.

Jack is survived by two sisters; Priscilla Lippitt of Meriden and Joanne Wray and her husband Clarence of St. Petersburg, FL; two brothers, Philip Lacourciere and his wife Gail and Richard Lacourciere and his wife Kathy, all of Southington, his sister-in-law, Sheila Lacourciere of Cheshire and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, William Lacourciere, formerly of Cheshire, and brother-in-law, Clarence Lippitt of Meriden.

Jack has lived and received excellent care for the last 8 years at Cheshire Regional Rehab, for which his family is extremely grateful to all the wonderful folks there.
