John J. Mezzanotte Jr.

John J. Mezzanotte Jr., 74, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 8, 2023 at HOCC of New Britain. 

John was born on December 9, 1948, in Newark, New Jersey to the late John J. Sr. and Pauline (Yolich) Mezzanotte.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and worked as an auto mechanic for many years. 

John had a big heart and an even bigger laugh - a belly laugh which you had no problem hearing from a distance away. Speaking of belly, he was an avid lover of delicious food and homemade cookies.  Never taking life too seriously and rarely in a bad mood, John loved to crack a good joke and make people laugh. At times it was like having a comedian on site. He was kind, generous, and was the first one to show up to lend a helping hand. Second to his love of laughing were the Dallas Cowboys, of whom he spent many of his later years waiting to win another Super Bowl....maybe someday.  

John is survived by his son, John J. Mezzanotte III and girlfriend Elisabeth Finnegan of Tolland, his former wife and good friend, Helen Mezzanotte and her partner Waldemar Sadowski of Southington, 2 stepdaughters, Christie Boucher and her husband Dale of Southington and Jill Marshall and her husband Christopher of Bristol, 4 granddaughters, Casey Ferrari, Taylor Doucette, Amanda Boan, and Laci Marshall, and 1 grandson, DJ Ferrari.

A prayer service and military honors will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville.
