John F. Sittnick Sr., 91, of Southington, CT, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at the HOCC at New Britain. He was the loving husband of Flora J. (LaReau) Sittnick for 33 years.
John was born in New Haven, CT on March 14, 1935, only son of the late John F. and Mary J. (Callahan) Sittnick.
He worked as a designer and draftsman for most of his working life. John was a man of great faith and a longtime member of The Church of St. Dominic where he was a soloist and member of the choir. He loved acting and singing and was part of local Community Theatres for years. His favorite song to perform was “Rich Man” from Fiddler on the Roof, a musical in which he played the lead role as Tevya. John was a big jokester and an even bigger “punster.” He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife Flora, John is survived by five children, John Sittnick Jr. of Maine, Michael Sittnick of Arizona, Regina Mappa Besitka and her husband Rich of South Meriden, Rebecca Loomis and her husband Dean of Meriden and Karen Pepin and her husband Craig of South Meriden, Flora’s two daughters, Cherie Whitford and Tracy Whitford, both of Plainville, Eva Sittnick of Wallingford and 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by an infant son, Craig Sittnick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at St. Luke’s Parish, The Church of St. Dominic, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours will be held prior to the Mass from 9 – 10:30 a.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville.
