Josephine M. Palmieri

Listen to Obituary

Josephine (Majewski) Palmieri, 90, was welcomed into heaven on Friday, February 27, 2026, joining her beloved husband, Joseph Palmieri. She resided in Southington for the majority of her life, and lived the last few years in Rocky Hill, with her daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Pedro Guerra, where she peacefully passed away surrounded by her loved ones.

Josephine is survived by 3 children, Maria, Theresa, Joey; 4 grandchildren, Cateri, Joseph, Angelina, Tony and 2 great-grandchildren, Kahlani and Kingmari.

Josephine “Josie” was born in Hartford on January 20,1936, raised by her mother, Mary and had 8 brothers and sisters, all who predeceased her. Josie, also known as "Shirley" in her younger years, attended Buckley High School and was in the top tier of her class. She was offered a full scholarship to attend college but declined so she could work and help support her Mom. Josie worked in the insurance industry, Aetna, before she began preparation to become a Nun and follow her faith. Before she started her religious journey, she unexpectedly met her soulmate, Joseph, and on June 9, 1956, she became his bride and they were married for 55 years. Josie was a devoted full-time mother and homemaker until her children were grown. She then expanded her education and worked at Nyren Wholesale Florist as a full-time customer service representative.

Josie was deeply passionate about spending time with her family, celebrating Polish and Italian traditions, and was a social butterfly who loved to talk and laugh for hours. She had a passion for shopping and going to the casino. Josie cooked for the entire neighborhood, and no one left her home hungry. She also had a sweet tooth, especially for ice cream. Josie also enjoyed coloring, painting and making ceramics.

She was surrounded daily by family and friends who adored her. Josie’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caregivers who treated her with great care and dignity, especially Kimberly, who was a sacred part of her life.

Josie has always been the heartbeat of the family; truly one of a kind. Her love had no limits. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity, strength, compassion and joy. Josie touched countless lives with her gentle spirit, soft touch, and healing soul. Her favorite advice was to be kind, keep peace, love and forgive, think carefully and most of all, trust in God and be happy.

“Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me”
