Judith A. Chatfield

Judith A. (Weed) Chatfield, 87, of Southington, CT, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at the HOCC at New Britain.

Judith was born on June 21, 1937 in Norwalk, CT to the late Ruel and Henrietta Weed. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Aurora College in Illinois and went on to Southern Connecticut State University where she received a master’s degree.

Judy worked as a schoolteacher in Seymour for many years, retiring at the age of 65 and moved to Southington in 1998.

She lived an extremely active lifestyle and enjoyed both downhill, cross-country skiing, and exercise of all kinds until her true passion for biking became part of her lifestyle. She enjoyed extensive bicycle rides on the trails of CT and New England. In her retirement, Judy worked part-time at the American Clock & Watch Museum in Bristol. She loved to travel, and had fond memories of trips to Nova Scotia, Austria, Maine, Arizona, Louisiana, Michigan, Illinois and Tennessee. She also enjoyed finding new healthy recipes to try and was an avid fan of UCONN Women’s Basketball. Seated in her favorite chair, dressed in team attire, nothing came between Judy and her UCONN Women’s Basketball games. Judy was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Southington and leaves behind many beloved friends.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Kimberly Barrow of Northborough, MA, Chelle Miklos of Southington and Allison Chatfield and husband Thomas Sickles of Lowell, MA. She also leaves behind her sister, Jean Kleis of Norwalk, one nephew, Kurt Kleis, his wife Mary and their 2 daughters, Kristin and Katy, all of Danbury, and her longtime companion, Austin Tedesco of Bristol. Judy was predeceased by her husband, Henry O. Chatfield, two sons-in-law, Wayne Barrow and Edward Miklos and brother-in-law, Jacob “Jack” Kleis. A special mention and thank you to the many caregivers who helped Judy navigate daily living in the last few years, more recently Veronica and Taysha.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Judy’s memory may be made to Farmington Canal Heritage Trail & Farmington River Trail (https://fchtrail.org/) or to the MGH CAA RESEARCH PROGRAM (https://www.angiopathy.org/support-us).
