Judith (Clark) Loven, 83, of Glastonbury and East Hartford, was called home peacefully on Monday, August 2, 2021, at LiveWell in Plantsville.
Born in Hartford to the late Charles and Gertrude (Ford) Clark, Judy was a gifted artist, graduating from Hartford High in 1955 and earning her BFA at the Hartford Art School. She worked for many years as an Art and After-Care Teacher at the Renbrook School in West Hartford, which became her second home, as she nurtured and inspired children from the late 1960’s until 2010. In the 1980’s she created a line of life-like plush toys and puppets for children, founding the Velvet Stable Toy Company in Glastonbury, which manufactured toys sold around the world.
A classically trained Soprano, Judy sang with the Connecticut Opera in the 1970’s and served as a Soloist for the Chancel Choir of South United Methodist Church in Manchester for over 30 years. Devoted to animals, she raised four generations of German Shepherd Dogs, for Guide, Service, and Police work and cared for rescued cats and horses at her farm in East Hartford.
Always smiling, Judy had the ability to find happiness in the smallest task and her upbeat personality was a delight. Predeceased by her husband, Raymond Loven Jr. Judy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah, and Joshua Gray, four beloved grandchildren, her brother and sister-in-law, David, and Nancy Clark of Centerbrook, as well a niece and three nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Judy will be held at 11AM on September 8, 2021, at South United Methodist Church, 1226 Main St, Manchester, CT 06040. Plantsville Funeral Home has been entrusted with handling the arrangements. For online condolences, please visit www.plantsvillefuneralhome.com.
