Laurie Mongillo Mihkels

Laurie (Mongillo) Mihkels, 74, of Meriden and formerly of Southington, passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. She was the loving wife for 23 years of the late Hans Mihkels who predeceased her in 2012.

Laurie was born in Southington on September 20, 1949, one of six children, to the late Albert and Lucille (Larson) Mongillo.

Laurie graduated from Southington High School, Class of 1968. She worked in the office of Dr. Terrence Donohue for many years, a job she truly enjoyed and where she was affectionately called “Lola.”  Laurie was always fashionable and loved to dress up. She was vibrant and beautiful, inside and out. Laurie was an excellent cook and a talented baker who loved to share her delicious creations with her family. She will be remembered as a loving wife, proud mother, adoring grandmother and wonderful sister, aunt and friend to many.

Laurie is survived by her son, Shawn Cormier and wife Cathy of Southington and two cherished grandchildren, Gabriel and Scarlett Cormier.  She is also survived by one brother, Ricky Mongillo and wife Geri of Marion and one sister, Marylou Mongillo of FL, as well as her sister-in-law, Denise Mongillo of Southington and many nieces and nephews including, Amy, Dave, James, Katie, Melissa, Gina and Genna, who loved her to death. Laurie also leaves behind many dear friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Laurie was predeceased by three brothers, David, Ronnie, and Michael Mongillo.

A funeral service will be celebrated at 12 noon on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the funeral home. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
