Mark “Skipper” Carbone, 84, of Southington, passed away suddenly surrounded by his family on Friday, September 26, 2025. He was the loving husband and best friend of Lucy Ann (Amoroso) Carbone for nearly 60 years and they truly enjoyed each other’s company.
Skipper was born in New Britain on January 3, 1941. He graduated from Southington High School and went on to honorably serve his country in the U.S. Army. Skip greatly enjoyed sharing stories from his youth and of his days in the military. He was a proud member of the American Legion Kiltonic Post 72 in Southington.
Skipper worked for Tomasso Construction for 17 years. He then went to work for Cherokee Explosives, Inc. and eventually retired in 2005. He loved sports, especially football and baseball, and was a devoted NY Yankee fan. He was also an avid golfer for many years and enjoyed playing in family tournaments at Tunxis Plantation Country Club. He also liked classic cars, enjoyed fishing with his son and was the go-to “Mr. Fix-It” for any project that needed to be meticulously completed. Above all else, he always put his family first and loved cooking breakfast for everyone, especially his grandkids.
In addition to his wife Lou, Skip is survived by two children, son, Jeff Carbone and his wife Annie and daughter, Brenda Carbone, both of Southington and five cherished grandchildren; Sophia Butcher and her husband Brendan, Mark Howland, Olivia Carbone, Amber Maier and Andrew McGinnis. He is also survived by his brother, Rick DiPinto of Waterbury, two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Rosanne and Richard Magnoli of North Carolina and Joanne and Lou Pandolfi of South Carolina, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and a large loving extended family of close cousins and so many dear friends. He will be deeply missed.
Skip was predeceased by his mother, Delphie (Celella) DiPinto and his stepfather, John DiPinto.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Skip’s memory may be made to the Tunnels to Tower Foundation (https://t2t.org).
