Mrs. Mary Elizabeth (Shugrue) Coakley, 86, formerly of 82 Marlboro St. in Waterbury died on Tuesday August 13, 2013 at The Highlands Healthcare Center in Cheshire. She was the widow of Francis T. Coakley.

Mary was born in Waterbury on November 12, 1926, daughter of the late Eugene and Helen (Moore) Shugrue. She was a lifelong resident of Waterbury until recently making her home with her daughter and family in Marion, CT. Mary was educated in local schools and graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School, Class of 1944. She was employed as a medical secretary for several doctors in Waterbury. After her retirement, she enjoyed being a literacy volunteer and spent many days line dancing with her friends.

Mrs. Coakley is survived by her daughter Eileen Plasky and her husband Ronald of New Britain, Patricia Santovasi and her husband Joseph with whom she resided in Marion, and her three grandchildren; Jennifer Plasky, Elizabeth Plasky and Matthew Santovasi. She was predeceased by her son Michael W. Coakley. Mary also leaves her brother Eugene Shugrue and his wife Vivian of Southington, several nieces and nephews and her dear cousin, Evelyn Conard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday August 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. There are no calling hours. For online condolences, please visit www.plantsvillefuneralhome.com.

FUNERAL SERVICES

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday August 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. There are no calling hours.
