Mary E. Engle

Mary Elizabeth Engle, 72, a 20 year resident of Plantsville, peacefully passed away on May 1, 2021 at LiveWell in Plantsville.

Born on October 17, 1948 in Philadelphia to the late David and Mary (Stover) Engle, Mary lived in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and 58 years in Connecticut.

Mary graduated from Mary Ward Secretarial School in 1968 and was an executive secretary with Chandler Evans Corporation and Aetna Life & Casualty. Happily leaving the business world, Mary finished her career working 13 years with Goodwill-where she never missed a day of work. Mary was a longtime volunteer at Southington’s Calendar House.

Never still- or quiet- for one moment, Mary was energetic and motivated, and always physically active. She was a dedicated runner, skier, skater and hiker with the New Haven Hiking Club and a 50 year bicyclist with Sound Cyclist, among others. Mary was a devotee of yoga and pilates at the Southington YMCA.

Struggling against Covid isolation, Mary was diagnosed in November with rapidly progressive dementia. She received specialized care in the Hospital of Central CT, Bristol Hospital and LiveWell of Plantsville, where she received unmatched levels of loving care.

Mary is survived by her sister Frances, nephews Stephen and Gregory, and her brother, David. Mary now rests with her Dad in New North Cemetery, Woodbury, CT.

Memorial donations in Mary’s name to Faith Living Church are encouraged.

Prayerfully perhaps science may soon discern a new diagnosis- and cure- for those totally isolated and overwhelmed by the recent pandemic.

Plantsville Funeral Home has been entrusted with handling the arrangements. Online condolences are available at www.PlantsvilleFuneralHome.com.
