Mary T. Prus

Mary (Marie) Prus, 93, joined her beloved husband, Walter, and son, Gregory, in eternal rest on December 15, 2016.

Mary was born in 1923, to the late Rozalia and Waleryjan Zaniewski.  She grew up in New Britain and attended Holy Cross Church, until becoming a resident of Plantsville, where she and Wally raised their children.

A loving mother, she leaves behind her daughter, Sandy Chute and husband, Al; son, Larry Prus and wife, Linda; and daughter-in-law, Joyce Prus.  Her love extended to her grandchildren: Tamara Dlugos and husband, Paul, Patrick Chute and wife, Laurie, Daniel Prus, Christopher Prus, and Gregory Prus.  Recent joy in her life came from her great-grandchildren, Ryan and Steven Dlugos and Brendan Chute.

Growing up with eight brothers, family was always a center point in her life.  Mary was predeceased by brothers, Vinnie, Joe, John, Frank, Leo, Alex, and Peter Zaniewski.  She leaves behind her brother, Stanley “Stashu” Zaniewski and wife, Helen, sisters-in-law, Laura and Florence, and many nieces and nephews.

God, family and hard work guided Mary’s life.  She became a communicant of Mary Our Queen Church upon its founding the early 1960’s and also enjoyed daily televised masses.  She loved the daily walks that she and her wonderful friend and neighbor, Helen, took after her retirement from Gaynor Electric in Thomaston, where she worked for many years as a valued employee and supervisor.  She enjoyed watching sports of all types, and loved to cook and bake.  Christmas family gatherings over the years and the traditional Easter Polish breakfast feasts will be remembered with fondness.  We are blessed to have had such a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend in our lives.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at The Summit of Plantsville and Hospice for their kindness and care.  In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford, CT 06492, the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Mary Our Queen Church, 248 Savage St, Plantsville.  Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain.  Family and friends may gather before the mass, from 9-10 a.m. at Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St, Plantsville.  For directions and online expressions of sympathy, please visit www.plantsvillefuneralhome.com.
