Michael Jay Shimansky

Michael Jay Shimansky, 79, of West Haven, CT, passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

Michael was born on March 17, 1947 in New Britain to the late George and Shirley (Horn) Shimansky. He graduated from Pulaski High School in New Britain, Class of 1965 and went on to earn a degree in Business Administration from CCSC. Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, from 1967 – 1970.

Michael built a successful career in the bar and restaurant industry, owning The Andrew’s Restaurant in New Britain, Mrs. Pip’s in Newington, and the Barking Dog in Berlin. He also served as a substitute teacher at E.C. Goodwin. Michael will be remembered as strong-willed yet sensitive, someone who lived life on his own terms. He loved animals, especially his dogs, Dante, Magnum, Higgins, and his loyal companion, Rick, who will miss him deeply.

In addition to his dog Rick, Michael is survived by his sister, Sharon (Shimansky) Kraft and her husband David of Plantsville, his cousin, Margery (Dorfman) Weinbaum of New Britain, his niece, Heather (Kraft) Eyres and her husband Graham of New Britain, great-nieces and great-nephews, Graham Eyres III (Zoe), Dillon and Rebecca Eyres, Kyle, Nathan and Alyssa Kraft and one great-grandnephew, Graham Eyres IV. In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by his uncle, Manuel “Chubby Clark” Shimansky and two nephews, Daniel and Brian Kraft.
