Paula A. Barra

Paula A. Barra, 61, of Southington and formerly of Cheshire, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, on Monday, January 30, 2023 at The HOCC New Britain Campus.

Paula was born on June 22, 1961 in New Haven, CT to the late Nicholas and Eleanor (DelVecchio) Barra.

Prior to her retirement, Paula was a participant at Abilities Without Boundaries in Cheshire for nearly 40 years. She had an unbelievable knack for T.V. trivia, earning her title of “Queen.” She had a love of good food and trips to the casino where she enjoyed playing the penny slots. She had an innate ability to draw people in with her magnetic personality. Her heart was filled with love and compassion beyond understanding. Paula’s memory will live on by all who were lucky enough to know her, love her and be loved unconditionally in return.

Paula is survived by her sister Maria Barra Proffitt and her husband Stephen, nieces and nephews, Matthew Proffitt and his wife Jennifer, Nicole Nemczuk and her husband Steven, Daniel Proffitt and his wife Lauren and Rachel Proffitt and her fiancé  Edward Caperna.  Paula was affectionately known as “PoPo” to her 7 cherished great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a large extended family of caregivers. She was predeceased by many aunts and uncles who loved her dearly.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. from the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville with a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bridget of Sweden Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire. Burial will follow in St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Cheshire.
