Listen to Obituary

Philip G. Houle, 82, of Lancaster, SC, formerly of Southington, CT, passed January 29, 2026. Phil was born to the late Philip H. and Mary (Gaug) Houle, April 6, 1943, in Waterbury, CT. He graduated from Southington H.S. in 1961 and attended college classes at Waterbury State Technical College. He married Patricia Simons in 1965 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2025.

Petty Officer Third Class Houle served his country as an Electronics Technician in the Navy for four years. His early years of service were kept secret, and it wasn’t until he saw his unit featured in the 2000 movie Thirteen Days starring Kevin Costner that he could finally share those experiences with us. He was based at NAS Key West, Florida, where the actual RF-8As of Light Photographic Squadron Sixty-Two (VFP-62) launched from on their Cuban overflight missions. In recognition of their work during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, his unit received a commendation from President John F. Kennedy. He has also belonged to the American Legion Post 72 in Southington, CT for more than fifty years, earning a lifetime membership.

Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Phil dedicated more than 27 years to Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Southington, CT, ultimately advancing to the position of General Foreman. He took early retirement from P&W and then spent 17 years as a Facility Manager and Food Safety Manager at Bozzuto’s Inc in Cheshire CT where his wife also worked for 50 years. The Bozzuto’s were their non-biological family. Pat and Phil had many amazing memories of the trips to many countries with Adam, Lillian, Michael, and Jayne and all of the IGA store owners. We are forever grateful and blessed for their love and support.

He leaves as his legacy two daughters: Noreen Patterson and her husband Lenny of Lancaster SC and Lisa Carlone of Kensington CT; and 6 grandsons, Justin Patterson and his wife Shyanna of Heath Springs SC, Dominic Carlone III of Hillsborough, NH, Jesse Patterson of Rock Hill, SC, Nicholas Carlone and his wife Samantha of Wolcott CT, Zachary Carlone of Kensington CT and Joshua Carlone and wife Abigail of New Britain, CT; and three great grandchildren, Quincy, Phoenix and Dominic IV “D4”. He also leaves two siblings, James Houle, and his wife Faeth and Richard Houle all of FL; four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Kathy Houle, Diane Simons, Marge Fuhringer and husband Mike, and Helen Sioch and husband John; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. His children remember him as a hard-working, family man who deeply enjoyed being on the water in his boat, his dogs Khloe and Patches, and above all, who absolutely loved his wife with all his heart. He was preceded by his parents, brother Stephen Houle, brother-in-law Albert “Butch” Simons and son in law Dominic Carlone Jr.
