Richard J. Beharry

February 11, 1982 — April 3, 2024

Lehigh Acres, FL & Southington, CT

Richard James Beharry died at his home in Lehigh Acres, Florida on April 3, 2024. Richard was born on February 11, 1982 to Richard and Helene Beharry. He was their pride and joy and they devoted their lives to him.

Richard spent his childhood in Southington, CT growing up with a large extended family. He was very close with his paternal grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.  Richard enjoyed playing football, baseball and video games growing up. His love for music, sports, dogs, clothing, hats, sneakers and cooking grew with him.

Richard considered his dogs his closest friends and always said he loved dogs more than people. His first dog was Max, then Rascal, Blaze, Honey, and his best friend, Biggie. Rich adopted his parents dogs Trina, Sophie and Boomer after their deaths.  Richard loved to dress well and his signature style was a hat, jersey and fresh, clean kicks.  He loved his guns. His #1 artist was DMX. He loved all hip hop-especially Styles P, Jadakiss and most recently Joyner Lucas.  Rit’s favorite teams were UConn, the Celtics and Yankees.

Rich loved to travel. His parents instilled the joy of travel in him at a young age; taking trips across the country to Nebraska, Chicago, Virginia, Maryland, DC, and his favorite weekend trip-NYC.  He left his home state of CT and spent time in Arkansas, Virginia and North Carolina before settling in Lehigh Acres, Florida with his parents.  Physical distance never stopped him from connecting with his loved ones. He was an expert at connecting via text and messaging. He was the backbone of his cousin group chat.

He was a career cook-working at Hooters in Norfolk, VA, Greensboro, NC and Fort Myers, FL.  Rich spent the end of his career at Mugs in Jugs of SW Florida and this became his home away from home.

Richard’s dedication, honesty and loyalty to his family and friends set an example we can all learn and grow from. These are traits highly discussed and rarely possessed. Rich held himself to a high standard when it came to the people he cared about.  He had a heart that loved beyond measure, and he would lay down his life for those he loved. He was hard working, kind and introspective. In true Beharry fashion Richard communicated heavily with dry sarcasm which often went over people’s understanding.  Richard was a rare soul like his Momma.

Richard James Beharry was predeceased by his mom, Helene Beharry-Tomlinson, his dad, Richard Beharry, step-father, Ron Tomlinson, both sets of paternal and maternal grandparents and his dogs, Max, Rascal, Blaze, Honey and Trina.

He leaves behind his dogs, Biggie, Sophie and Boomer and his family; Aunt Adrianne and Uncle Charlie Whiteside, Uncle Joe Beharry and his wife Heidi, Uncle Michael Beharry, Sr., Uncle John Beharry,., and “Anty” Sonia Nurczyk, cousins whom he considered siblings, Michelle Beharry, Racquel Beharry and Michael Beharry, Jr.,  his Ohio cousin, Rebecca “Becca” Beharry, and his cousin, Kaleigh Perez-Beharry by association and cousins, Kara Wilkes and Ernie Phillips.  He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, whom he loved deeply and worked hard to instill wisdom in and set an example for; his first favorite, Evalyn Beharry, his second favorite, Anna Gleifert, his Goddaughter, Ashlynn Beharry, Naomi Hernandez, his Mexican princess, Gloriah Mills, Alyssa Beharry, Alijah Durham and Israel Ace Reyes. He also leaves behind his best friend whom he considered a brother, Lloyd Boleware and  daughter Taylor Boleware of New Orleans, LA, his friend whom he considered his  sister Linda Simon of Florida, who provided loving care  to him during his darkest hours-cooking for him, welcoming him into her family and being by his side when he felt alone, good friend Travis Simmons of Florida and his Mugs and Jugs family.  Richard left his heart in Indiana with Mellie Huntley and Prezleigh.
