Robert W. Dickson

Robert “Bob” W. Dickson, 85, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2025 at Mulberry Gardens. He was the beloved husband and true love of Gunda “Kay” (Krause) Dickson for 59 years, the devoted and supportive father to Holly and Troy and a cornball humored “Poppi” to his loving grandchildren.

Robert was born on May 30, 1940 in Hartford, CT, only son of the late Robert and Elsie (Kiiskila) Dickson. Bob graduated from Buckley High School in Hartford, Class of 1958. He served his country with pride from 1961 to 1965 in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine as an air force mechanic and received an honorable discharge in January of 1965. Bob enrolled in the University of Hartford, Ward Technical College and earned his associate’s degree in applied science in June of 1978. He worked as a gas instrumentation specialist at the CT Yankee Gas Division/Eversource for over 20 years. Post retirement, Bob worked part-time at Richard Cheverolet in Cheshire where he eagerly awaited his next vehicle transport assignment.

Bob was mild mannered and a selfless true gentleman with a gentle soul. He had an unwavering work ethic and a mechanical mind which enabled him to fix almost anything. He was a lifelong car enthusiast with a special love for Chevrolets and took great joy in the many Corvettes he owned and restored over the years.

 Bob’s pride and joy was his 1964 Corvette fuel injected coupe that he lovingly cared for over four decades and gifted to his son on his 50th birthday in 2023. Bob was a lifelong member of the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) as well as many local Corvette clubs. There are many fond memories from Bob and Kay’s annual excursions to Carlisle, PA, Martha’s Vineyard and an abundance of seasonal weekend car shows.

In addition to his wife Kay, Bob is survived by two children, daughter, Holly Zwick and her husband Brandon of Wethersfield and son, Troy Dickson and his wife Erin of York, Maine and eight grandchildren: Afton, Ava and Gray Dyjak; Abby, Natalie and Robert Dickson and Ryan Zwick (Sarah) and Natalie Zwick.

He is also survived by his late cousins wife, Florence Dickson of Middletown and her son, Craig Hill of Bristol and several cousins in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, Scotland, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his treasured cousin, William Dickson.

For the past 16 months, Bob resided at Mulberry Gardens where he was lovingly embraced by the staff and the residents and enthusiastically participated in many recreational activities. Bob’s family was privileged and blessed to have enlisted the aide services of Janet Gordon and her supportive staff for the last three months of his care. Janet’s unwavering dedication to Bob and family will be forever engraved in our hearts.

A funeral service will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025 at the First Congregational Church, 37 Main Street, Southington.
