Robert James Mastrianni “Doc Bob,”“Voodoo,” “Mad Dog,” 72, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 21, 2026, at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford, leaving a legacy of love and compassion.
Bob was born on August 25, 1953, in Southington to the late Robert Joseph and Ellen (Moran) Mastrianni.
He graduated from Canterbury Prep School, Class of 1972 and held several college degrees from Southern Connecticut State University, UCONN and Yale University. As a Certified Athletic Trainer and Physical Therapist, Doc Bob’s passion was helping, treating and healing people. His light continues to shine through the lives he touched. He will be remembered as a selfless and humble master of his craft, for bringing people together and for being a true master of making people smile and feel loved! Bob was a great storyteller, loved a good joke, oh the smirk and twinkle in his eyes! He worked as a physical therapist at Ommi Physical Therapy in their Wallingford and New Haven offices for many years. As an athletic trainer he worked all over the state, primarily at Southington, Platt and Bloomfield High Schools, Yale University, CCSU and many more. Bob was an avid sports enthusiast, football being his favorite.
He is survived by his daughters, Leslie Flood and her husband Jason of Southington, Shannon Roesch and her husband Benjamin, Maegen Curley and her husband Jay, both of Vermont and six grandchildren: Penelope, Piper, Felix, Leo, Chet and George. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon Roach and her husband Paul of Arizona and his loving friend, Suzanne McGrath.

Funeral services will be celebrated privately. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held this summer, to be announced.
