Robert Lincoln Walsh, 97, of the Plantsville section of Southington, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, February 25, 2021. Bob was predeceased by Jacqueline J. Mickiewicz, the love of his life for 41 years.

Robert was born on February 12, 1924 in New Britain to the late Charles and Hanora (Gubbins) Walsh, originally of Cork, Ireland.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy on LCI (L) “Lucky #13” Flotilla Two, during World War II, having participated in five campaigns, most notably Anzio, Italy and Normandy, France.

He retired from the New Britain City Police Department, where he worked as police detective for many years. Bob loved the sea and was an avid sailor, spending many summer days sailing throughout New England with Jackie. Bob loved dogs, especially his poodles. He enjoyed spending time at his children’s cottage in Clinton and looked forward to trips to Lenny and Joe’s Fish Tale.

Bob is survived by his beloved family, son, Bruce Walsh and his wife Deb and his grandson, Brian Walsh, all of South Carolina, granddaughter, Paula Stewart, great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Gilbert and Christin Fiedler, all of Kentucky, a niece Patty Walsh and her husband Tom of CA three daughters, Jacqueline Mickiewicz of Marlborough, Suzanne Barkyoumb and her husband Tim of West Granby, Cindy Newton and her husband Mark of New Jersey and grandchildren Brandy Eber and her husband Mike of VA and Max Newton and his wife Katy and one great-granddaughter, Acey, all of CA. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Nena. In addition to Jackie, he was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Horse Feathers Veterans Program, Ray of Light Farm, 232 Town St, East Haddam, CT 06423 (Rayoflightfarm.org).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St, Plantsville. A graveside service with military honors will follow at 12:00 noon at Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington. Face coverings and social distancing are required at all times.
