Roland J. Pion, 80, of Southington, CT, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Bristol Hospital. He was the loving husband of Carolyn Pion for nearly 60 years.
Roland was born on December 28, 1942 in Waterbury to the late Donat and Irene Pion. He was a homebuilder by trade and was a natural entrepreneur, founding Royalcrest Homes and a trade consulting business. He was also a gifted salesman and in his younger years, worked alongside his father selling vacuums. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother and for the many stories he enjoyed sharing with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife Carolyn, Roland is survived by three children; Lauren Matthiesen and husband Andy of Darien, CT, David Pion and wife Anna Kujtkowski of Spencer, MA and Michelle Bates and husband Hamilton of Hopkinton, MA and 5 grandchildren: Lindsey and Julia Matthiesen, Aleksander Pion and Christina and Nathalie Bates. He is also survived by his brother, Henry Pion of Berlin and nieces and nephews. Roland was predeceased by his sister, Lillian Pion.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Roland’s birthday, Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the Immaculate Conception Church, 130 Summer St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours will be held before the service from 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S.
