Ruth G. Baker, 87, of Roseanna Rd., in the Marion section of Southington died Wed. Jan. 20, 2010 at the HCC at Bradley Memorial. She was the beloved wife of Robert C. Baker Sr. for 58 years.

Born in the Bronx, NY on May 13, 1922 to the late John Francis and Laura (Forsythe) Gunn she grew up in Ridgefield Park, NJ, lived in Montville, NJ for 14 years and had lived in Southington since 1972.

Mrs. Baker worked as an executive secretary for 12 years in Manhattan and retired from the Holgrath Corp. in Cheshire. She was the valedictorian of her high school graduating class of 1940 and studied at Pace University. She was a member of the Plantsville Congregational Church since 1972, and a past deacon. She was active in the Girl Scouts as a troop leader, the Rainbow Girls, the Calendar House, Friends of the Library and was a member of the Southington Library Scholarship Committee. She will be remembered as an avid bird watcher and for her love of nature.

In addition to her husband, Robert she is survived by two sons; Robert C. Baker Jr. and his wife, Carol Roberts of Silver Spring MD and Thomas R. Baker of Staten Island, NY; one daughter, Ruth E. Baker and her partner Lynn Markert of Amesbury, Mass.; and three grandchildren; Michael, Douglas and Anna Baker. She was pre-deceased by her sister Laura Anderson.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday Jan. 26, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Plantsville Congregational Church, 109 Church St., Plantsville, CT. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are on Monday Jan. 25, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville.
