Sandra L. (Buechele) Wood, 76, of Plainville and formerly of Cheshire, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, August 10, 2026. She was the loving wife of the late Robert E. “Woody” Wood for over 44 years.
Sandy was born in New Britain on June 26, 1950 and graduated from Southington High School. She was a longtime dedicated member of the Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church in Plantsville where she was the President of the Ladies Adoration Society of the Most Blessed Sacrament.
Sandy was an avid sports fan who especially loved hockey and served on the Board of Directors for the Hartford Wolf Pack Booster Club. She also enjoyed cheering on her beloved Boston Red Sox and New York Rangers and following NASCAR. A talented cook and baker, Sandy was known for her delicious brownies, cookies, fudge, and banana bread, which she happily made for special occasions or simply to brighten someone’s day. Above all, Sandy devoted herself to being the best wife, mother, and grandmother she could be. She will be deeply missed.
Sandy is survived by four children, Tod Wood and his wife Raygita of Newington, Scott Wood of Wallingford, Reneé Hearn and her husband John of Plainville and Traci Wood and Michael Coffrin of New Britain, and two grandchildren who were the light of her life, Trey Hearn and Erin Wood. She is also survived by her sisters, Bonnie Albanese (Ken Stevens), Elizabeth McGeehan, Debra Smith (Geoff), Donna Marinan (Joe) and Robin Emond (Stanley), one brother, Brett Palumbo (Sherri), sister-in-law, Valerie Buechele and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Robert, Sandy was predeceased by her father, Edward Buechele, her Mom and Dad, Pearl (Duchene) Palumbo and Eraldo “Al” Palumbo, one brother, Ronald Buechele, a brother-in-law, Joseph McGeehan and her beloved pup, Kiko.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandy’s memory may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital (https://www.shrinerschildrens.org/en) or to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/).
