Sharon A. Gilligan, 71, of Southington, CT and formerly of Simsbury, CT, entered into rest on Thursday, August 31, 2023. The daughter of the late John and Joan (Finnegan) Gilligan, Sharon was born on March 10, 1952 in Newburgh, NY.

Sharon was a graduate of Mount Saint Mary High School in Newburgh as well as Marymount College in Virginia. Sharon cherished her time as an in-home daycare provider for over 20 years, impacting the lives of numerous children she considered extended family. Following her career in daycare, she transitioned to work in the insurance industry. The final years of her career were spent caring for patients and their families at The Governor’s House in Simsbury. In her retirement years, Sharon treasured the added time she had to spend with her grandchildren as they became more involved in music, soccer and softball.

Sharon is survived by her daughter Beth Laureano of Andover, MA, as well as her two sons, David Ossias and his wife Sara of Southington, CT, and Brian Ossias and his wife Marti, also of Southington, CT. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren: Cecilia, Josie, Alaina, Aubrey, Adelyn, Gavin and Aiden. In addition, Sharon is survived by her siblings, Kevin Gilligan and his wife Patty of Edina, MN, Daniel Gilligan and his wife Kathy of Portland, ME, Patricia Squillace and her husband Wayne of Centennial, CO, and Martin Gilligan and his wife Holly of Chatham, NJ. She is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews. Finally, she is survived by her beloved Uncle and Aunt Tom and Marian Gilligan of Boca Grande, FL.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 9th from 8:30-10:15 a.m. at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 South Main Street, Plantsville, CT. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at The Church of Saint Dominic, 1050 Flanders Road, Southington, CT. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Sharon’s name are requested to Community Renewal Team (CRT) at www.crtct.org, a local nonprofit organization supporting Hartford County with challenges such as hunger, homelessness, unemployment, and poverty.
