Steven M. Herz

Steven Herz of Harwinton, CT passed away peacefully on September 9th 2026 at age 68. For the last few years of Steven’s life he battled with prostate cancer. When the cancer became too aggressive to continue treatment, he remained strong and true to himself, facing the final chapter of his life with courage and dignity. His fight may have come to an end, but his strength never did.

Steven was born on April 26th 1958 in Hartford, CT. He was the son of the late Leon and Lola Herz and spent his life growing up in Connecticut with his brothers Roman Herz and Zev Herz. He continued to build a home, a career, and a family that he was deeply proud of. Steven shared many years with his late wife, Ronalee Herz, and together they raised their two children, April Herz and Tyler Herz, who were the center of their world.

Steven devoted his life to his family, his work, and the friends who became family along the way. After learning the HVAC trade, he spent 35 years working at the Aetna Data Centers, where he not only provided for his family but built lifelong friendships with his coworkers. His strong work ethic came from his belief that working hard meant giving the people you loved a better life.

Providing for his children and watching them thrive was always one of Steven’s greatest priorities. He worked hard so both Tyler and April could go to school, see the world, and build lives of their own. He was incredibly proud of both of them and the people they became. He leaves behind two children who will never be able to thank him enough for all he sacrificed, but who will carry a part of him with them always. He will shine through their strength, their values, and the lessons he taught them.

Steven looked forward to retirement, but even then, he continued working and helping April turn her vision for her store front, Twice As Good, into a reality. He took great pride in watching her business come to life and never stopped supporting and advocating for her success.

Steven was always a realist except, perhaps, in his younger years when he was convinced he was Superman as he tested the limits of his mortality in his adventures. But in many ways, he really was. He was strong, determined, and always willing to fight for the people he loved. To his children, he was their protector, provider, biggest supporter, and hero. That is a part of Steven they will carry with them forever.

Just as two years prior with Steven’s beloved wife, we look to honor Steven through a commemorative book. We ask those who attend the calling hours to contribute photos or written memories to this book to extend Steven’s life story.
