Terry M. (Thompson) Wysong, 80, of the Marion section of Southington, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Terry was born in Galveston, Texas on January 15, 1945, to the late George and Jeanette (Haugen) Thompson. She was raised in Villa Park, Illinois, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Illinois. She began her career as a CPA with Lybrand, Ross Bros. and Montgomery, where she was known for her diligence and integrity.
In midlife, Terry felt called to serve others in a new way. She earned her Master of Divinity from Yale University and was ordained as an Episcopal priest. She ministered with compassion, intellect, and unwavering faith, serving several parishes including St James West Hartford, CT; St Paul’s, Southington, CT; and Trinity Mobile, AL.
Terry was a woman of many talents and interests. She was outgoing and spent many years volunteering for organizations. She was a proud member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood (Philanthropic Educational Organization) to promote educational opportunities for women. She also found joy in quiet moments spent cross stitching Christmas stockings for her grandchildren, and cherished family time at Lake Sunapee, NH—boating, swimming, and savoring the peaceful beauty of the lake. She was a committed wife and a devoted stay-at-home mother when her children were young. Her greatest pride and joy was her family. She delighted in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, and her love for them was the steady thread that ran through every season of her life.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Bryan Wysong, and their four daughters: Melissa Costello and her husband Sean of Mobile, AL; Erin Hofstatter and her husband Daniel of Woodbridge, CT; Rebecca McClellan and her husband Ian of Englewood, CO; and Kimberly Gatti and her husband Daniele of Tokyo, Japan. She is also survived by her brother, Gregory Thompson and his wife Mary Fran Troha of Waukegan, IL, as well as her ten grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents, Terry was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Dobberman, and her brother-in-law, David Dobberman.
A memorial service will be held on June 21, 2025, 10:00am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 145 Main St., Southington. Interment will follow in the church’s memorial garden. To join the service virtually, please follow this link: [https://www.stpaulct.org/].
