Valerie Ann (Shanley) Greene, 70, of Bristol and formerly of Southington, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Hartford Hospital.
Valerie was born on April 18, 1955 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Andrew and Joan (Mulligan) Shanley. She graduated from Southington High School and attended Kaynor Technical School. Valerie worked in pediatric nursing at PSA Aveanna Healthcare for over 25 years.
From a young age, Valerie lived her life with strong faith. She was a longtime member of St. Thomas Church in Southington where she took an active role in the Passion Play and then served as a Eucharistic Minister at the Immaculate Conception Church for many years.
Val’s deep love for music was passed down to her from her grandfather, a published songwriter. She was a talented musician, playing trumpet and guitar. She showcased her exceptional musical talent in the Miss Southington Pageant and directed the St. Thomas Jr. Folk Group. Valerie was also a gifted seamstress, a phenomenal cook, an avid skier, enjoyed camping and always cared for others, frequently providing meals to those in need. While her girls were growing up, Val was an active SHS Band Mom and Girl Scout Leader. Above all else, she was kind and compassionate and loved her family more than anything else.
Valerie is survived by two daughters, Kristin Greene of Cape Coral, Florida and Laura Greene of Bristol and two cherished grandsons, Michael and Jayce. She is also survived by her former husband and dear friend, Bruce “Buzz” Greene of Southington, five sisters, Christine Lee of Southington, Kathleen Maguda (Robert) of Plantsville, Ellen Waldren (Kennedy) of Terryville, Marita Policki (Joseph) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Joan Stefanowicz (Brian) of Southington and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Ronald Lee.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Valerie’s memory may be made to St. Lukes Parish Passion Play 50th Anniversary Fund, 99 Bristol St., Southington, CT 06489.
