Margaret Verzulli passed away peacefully on August 7th at Southington Care Center. Margaret was born on March 2, 1929 in New Britain, Connecticut, the daughter of Evangeline Burns and John Knight. She grew up in New Britain with her twin sister Mary, and twin sisters Jeanne and Jane, attending St. Mary's School and New Britain Senior High School.
Margaret worked as a switchboard operator for Southern New England Telephone Company until her daughters were born when she became a full-time mother. She was an accomplished seamstress, creating slipcovers, drapes, and fine clothing for her family; she was also actively involved in the PTA and Girl Scouts. Her creativity was expressed in her flair for decorating projects which graced her home. Her happiest times were spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A favorite activity was doing arts and crafts projects around the kitchen table with each generation of her progeny.
Margaret spent many years as a volunteer in the local history room at the New Britain Public Library. It was here where she began to immerse herself in the details of the five generations of family members who had lived in the city before her. In the 1990s, before the Internet made it easy, she undertook the task of researching her family genealogy and published her findings in a keepsake book for family members.
Margaret loved to travel, and she enjoyed several extended stays in Italy as well as trips to Ireland, Scotland, England and Spain. She happily joined in family excursions to Cape Cod and Florida, and she was always eager to learn new things and have new experiences. She appreciated the beauty of all art forms and developed a deep love for opera.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Mulberry Gardens of Plantsville and of Southington Care Center for their expert and compassionate care; also thank you to Eune Robinson and Stephnie Robinson for their loving companionship and care of Margaret.
Margaret was predeceased by her: sister Mary Needham; sister Jane Capsalors; husband Joseph Redente; husband John Verzulli.
She is survived by her sister Jeanne Rivers, daughters Julia Cook (son-in-law Patrick) and Margaret Redente; her grandchildren Vanessa Leon, Ryan Cook, Meghan Maillet, Rebekah Wampler, Jamie Emerson; her great- grandchildren Jade Leon, Tai Leon, Brady Cook, Tyler Maillet, Abigail Maillet, and a great-granddaughter soon to be born.
